Dike reinforcement
Faster and more reliable release of preloading settlement phase during dike reinforcement with smart automated settlement monitoring.
The Dutch Flood Protection Program (HWBP) presents a monumental challenge: the largest dike reinforcement operation since the Dutch Delta Works. Over the next thirty years, 1,400 kilometers of dikes, along with 400 locks and pumping stations, will be reinforced to protect the Netherlands from flooding.
During dike reinforcement, large volumes of sand are often applied to pre-load the ground. This preloading ensures controlled settlement of the underlying soil. Accurate monitoring of this settlement is crucial and has traditionally been performed manually on a weekly basis by land surveyors using RTK-GNSS equipment.
With DeltaIoT’s innovative IoT-GNSS solution, the DeltaCube, settlement plates are now monitored remotely and fully automatically. Thanks to a higher measurement frequency and intelligent data processing, the system delivers more reliable insights than manual weekly measurements.
As a result, geotechnical engineers can model the settlement curve faster and with greater confidence , which is essential for an efficient and safe release of the settlement phase.
